The WIC (Workplace Injury Commission) is a statutory authority, established under the Accident Compensation Act 1985. The WIC is an independent service that uses the principles of alternative dispute resolution to resolve workers compensation disputes in Victoria.
Conciliation is an alternative dispute resolution process that can help you avoid having to go to court. Conciliation is a key part of the Victorian Workers Compensation Scheme and is designed to help resolve disputes by getting all the people involved - workers, employers and WorkCover agents or self-insurers - in an informal, non-adversarial setting to achieve an agreement that is fair.
Not all disputes require a formal conference, to be resolved. In many cases, your dispute can resolve without a formal conference.
Subject to your instructions, your consultant can actively engage with relevant parties to establish if an early resolution can be achieved without the need for a formal meeting or conference.
This flexibility allows the process to adapt to the specific needs of the dispute.
The WIC is a free service.
